"I'm taming the world by playing soccer on blockhouses, choosing a favourite playing field with my friends, maybe a goal around which there is a little better surface of sand or tufts of grass devoid of stones," says Marcin Zonenberg, or perhaps Martin Sonnenberg, the artist's alter ego.
Zonenberg and Sonnenberg tame the world - physical spaces and spaces of memory. In a state of hypomania, Sonnenberg returns to the district league stadium of his adolescence. He deconstructs and confronts traumas by re-creating spaces from his childhood—football fields, game venues, and rivalries during times of identity construction and the struggle for one's mental space.
Zonenberg adapts and constructs objects in his new apartment, building sets, arranging them like blocks, taming his place to live, and facing financial, logistical, and territorial challenges. The objects he creates allude to the aesthetics of IKEA furniture, as well as its crucial essence - the idea of 'do-it-yourself,' which represents the moment of individual organization of life in a new place, a moment full of dilemmas regarding the creation of a safe, tame, friendly and functional space. Drawing on the concept of creating modular furniture, relying on cheap materials or unwanted waste, Zonenberg organizes reality, testing the concept of functionality and economy of space.
