The title introduces a number of issues centered around memory and oblivion that art objects and their creators encounter. The starting point for the exhibition is a series of sculptures by Waldemar Umiastowski, which was never presented before. The objects were being created for the last twenty years in the privacy of the artist's studio, and he himself did not perform any activities to show them in public. Intimate, small works consist of everyday objects. Their accidental discovery by the organizers of the exhibition during a visit to Umiastowski's studio initiated questions about the nature of memory mechanisms.
Forgotten objects lie in the studios, cover by dust in wardrobes, drawers, magazines. Sometimes they scare or surprise in the public space. Because of political or ideological perturbations, because of disappearing from the main art market or simply because of their strangeness or atypicalness. From private items, through destroyed and forgotten monuments and hypothetical projects that will probably never be implemented, the exhibition presents a multitude of aspects related to mechanisms of memory and power - because what is forgotten is rarely decided by ourselves. More often it is forgotten because of the complex socio-political situation. At the Lescer Art Center we restore sculptures, objects and monuments to their forgotten, and sometimes never given, life, as works of art.
